today

March 28, 2008

The girls and I spent the morning with friends at the Museum. We had gotten a few inches of snow so it was a perfect day to be inside. Kids love the museum, they aren’t at the age where everything is boring and historical. Actually, I am not sure if they even noticed any of the displays. If we walked by a set of benches they would good from spot to spot sitting, standing, and crawling over them. It goes along the theory of the best part of a gift (for children anyway) is the cardboard box the it comes in.

I finally was able to get a photo of R.’s new skirt from Matilda Jane Clothing. We were at the Henry Ford Museum and everyone comments on how cute it was. Never mind the girl in the skirt or the sister and mom, but the SKIRT was so darn CUTE. hehe.

Poll #1

March 24, 2008

When I edit my sessions I edit the images fully in {classic color}, {black & white}, and then some in {vintage texture} or {not your ordinary photo}. I am in a vintage texture phase and love the look. In my opinion it makes the photo a little more artsy. Some photographer on edit photos in black and white or color etc. There is never a “right” way to do art so my question is what editing style do you like better. If you need to check out the different styles beside color and bw go to the Unscripted Moments Photography website and click on the {galleries} tab.

Watch and Learn from the Pro’s

March 22, 2008

You may have to scroll down and turn off the music playing in the side bar to listen to the video. Sorry. The girls are talking quietly. :-)

Many days while I am doing what ever it is I do I will stop and listen to what the girls are playing. I have tried to capture them on video before but both girls have stealth hearing. As soon as they hear the beep beep of the DVD Cam go one they stop playing. WELL, I got this this time!!! I turned the camera on way in the back of the kitchen and quiet snuck up on them. How they did not see me pointing the camera or hear me giggling I do not know. Just in case you miss the beginning part, they are playing "America’s Next Top Model" R. is the Photographer and H. the model. Watch closely how R. poses H. ever so perfectly. H. is turning into such a great model so addeds her own little style to the photo just before the "shutter" is cllllicked. :-)

This recording is unauthorized by those participating in the video, hehe.

cry

Here is one of the adorable MJC dresses I received yesterday. I wish H. was more excited to be out in the cold to take photos of it. The only way I was able to get a shot was to hold the camera at my side, point and shoot away.

WHich reminds my….Melissa C. I haven’t forgot about the tutorial for. :-) The weekend and week have gotten away from me…long story that I do not want to get into. I will get the tutorial for you though.

Also as of 5pm Thursday 3.20.08 I am on vacation until Monday morning. It’s long overdue that I spend time with my family without feeling like I should be doing something for Unscripted Moments. All emails and phone calls will be answered in order they were recieved Monday morning. :-) Thanks for understanding.

Wait a minute mister postman…. Update..

March 19, 2008

The postman heard my cry and left me a nice little package today. I didn’t get it until late so I will have to take photos tomorrow!!! Reese was soo excited about the clothes she ripped everything out of the bag before I could get me jacket off.

Thank you Heather F. for being such a wonderful trunk keeper and helping me with my order for Amy’s show and My recent trunk show!!!

Wait a minute mister postman….

Where are my Matilda Jane outfits I ordered for my girls????  LOL!! I never get excited about clothes but I am sooooo in love with Matilda Jane Clothing I can’t not wait for the girls outfits to arrive. I my order something for myself too. :-)

If you have cute outfits for your children and want portraits give me a call or email. I have a few spots available in October for photo sessions.  I know, OCTOBER!!!! Yep, I am booked except for the month of October so do not wait to schedule and hope you can get an outdoor fall holiday session. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter!!!!

Why is it???

When I need to get the entire house dusted, vacuumed, bathrooms cleaned and laundry done I can do it In a matter of hours. BUT when it comes to everyday chores they never seemed to get done??? I didn’t do the deep clean I wish i could do but my house is picked up and all the laundry, except Chris’, is washed and put away. It feels good to have a clean house, makes me feel like my life is organized and I can think much more clear.

JUMP if you love Spring.

March 15, 2008
jump

We are jumping for joy, spring is starting to appear in Michigan. I had the windows open yesterday and Reese asked me "what is that smeeeellll?" My reply "FRESH AIR!!!" LOL! Reese had her tonsils and Adenoids taken out this past winterso maybe she never smelled fresh air before. Yay, that can be her excuse. hehe.

splash
I am excited to finally see "splashes" of color come out. While I love the purity of white snow when it blankets everything, it also makes me appreciate the newness of spring. So get your brightest colored shoes and do a spring dance. :-) my girls did.

Speaking of new. If you are interested in having newborn portraits / photographs / photography taken give me a call or email. My regular portrait sessions are full until October but I schedule newborn portrait sessions on a as needed basis.

A Partnership

March 6, 2008
What makes a great photo? We all want our photo to be the best but what does it take to have a GREAT portrait. It’s not about what camera is used, who is the best looking, most creative, or the clothes we were. It’s about a connection between the photographer and the subject.

I can honestly say most of my favorite photos are not necessarily those in which a person is looking directly at the camera. Yes, direct eye contact makes a wonderful portrait but there is more. It’s the little twinkle in a person’s eye when that special someone walks into a room. A spontaneous moments where all the conservative thought is gone and you just go with the moment. It’s not being afraid to take that extra little step.

freeze

Think about actors for a moment. We all have watched movies where the acting has been horrible. Why where they so bad? Did they fit the role, made trying to hard?? On the same thought, why are some actors soooooo goooooood! I always think it’s scary to get so wrapped up in a movie because the actors wer so believable. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about some of those movies for me, for example Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal( and I hate scary movies); Jodie Foster in The Brave One (left me shaking for two days not because it was scary but believable); Charilize Theron in Monster (YIKES!). Did you see Monster? Charlize gain weight and looked horrible, she deserved every right to have the Oscar for that role. She didn’t know when she first started the movie how it would turn out but she gave all of herself and won.  They all really put themself out there.

You are probably wondering what any of this has to do with your a photo session. Well, I ask that you think about what you have to bring to the session. Don’t be afraid to go with the moment and really put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to look silly or serious. If I ask you to scream don’t hold back, let it go like you have never screamed before. If you are asked to look at your child, look at them and think about how much you truly love them and how you would do anything for them. Hold your significant other like you haven’t seen them in weeks. Allow yourself to belly laugh so hard you cry. I want to be able to not only capture you but your emotions too. Your photo shoot is your time to be a model or actor, only you are playing yourself. Most importantly, as much as we both want the session photos to look great, it’s about having fun too!

Happy Birthday To my Mom!!

March 5, 2008

Yeap, today she turns 36y {again} :-) I would have said 34 but then that would make her younger than me. Hope you have a great day!!!

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Go to her blog to wish her a happy birthday.  My Mom’s Blog

S’mores?

March 3, 2008
Who is thinking of making s’mores when there is still snow on the ground? Don’t you just love it when you walk into a room and there is a smell which reminds you of when you were younger. What about how the cold fresh air makes you feel. {Cold, I know :-) .}

Well, this past weekend my DH went out and bought an eight person tent, we only have four members in our family though, and a new sleepbag for me. The girls informed me, I was the only one without a sleepbag and needed one to go camping. :-) DH pitched this huge tent smack dab in the middle of our great room and we all camped out Saturday night. Waking up Sunday morning I know why I didn’t have a sleepbag. hehe. I digress. With camping comes campfires (a gas fireplace in our case) and the girls and DH roasted their marshmellows and made s’mores. Now, I did not not have one on Saturday but then we made them again tonight. Before the s’more hit my mouth I could smell the graham cracker and marshmellow, immediately I had thoughts of sitting around a campfire as a child eating these goofy sins. I didn’t think to much about the taste because I was thinking more about my thoughts and how the smore made me feel.
I am always impressed with the way the human mind forgets but then in an instant is flooded with so many memories. Such a wonderful thing, isn’t it!

The weather is going to be getting warmer starting this week, or so says the weather person. We can’t wait to be able to get outside and play, ride bikes, just burn energy. We are also going to be going on a few trips which will be a nice change of pace.

Do you see the adorable dress R. is wearing? Well that was last years dress from Matilda Jane and few new pieces should be arriving within the next few weeks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Matilda Jane clothes. The dresses can be layered for cold weather/winter and as the girls grow used as shirts. So worth every penny. Check out her site if you are looking for something fun for your little girls to wear. Oh did I mention, the clothes look so adorable in photos. :-)

BABY PLANS; Two new additions to UMP.

February 6, 2008

Starting today I will be offering two new BABY PLANS to Unscripted Moments Photography.

The first is a maternity/newborn session Baby Plans: the BREATHLESS COLLECTION. Anyone who has gone through a pregnancy before can atest to how hard it becomes to breathe towards the end of a pregnancy, but then once the baby is born the joy and awe of seeing him/her takes your breath away.

        Breathless Collection: $365
        {maternity & newborn}

                • includes (1) maternity and (1) newborn session fee
                • 2- 8x10 desktop portrait ( 1 from each session)
                • 2- 5x7 desktop portraits (1 from each session)
                • 50 custom birth announcements

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Once your baby is born and throughout the rest of your life first year you will not sleep like you did before your bundle of joy arrived. My favorite part about having to get up in the middle of the night with my two girls was how peaceful the world seemed. No hustle and bustle of everyday life, just time to hold and cuddle with your child thinking of nothing else but how wonderful they are!!!

        Sleepless Collection: $520
        {newborn, 6 months, & 1 yr. portrait sessions}

Now that you have your prints…

I just finished packaging two print orders. In one of the orders is a 20x30 family portrait, I can’t wait to deliver it to the family. I wish I would be able to see what it will look like once it’s hung above their fireplace. Well, that got me thinking… How and where do you have your Unscripted Moments Photos in your home? I would love to have a small snapshot of your images to post here on the blog. So if you would like to share your images email your pictures to kim@unscriptedmomentsphotography.com and I will post them here as(if) I get them.

Are you ready for Valentine’s Day?

I love Apples.

January 22, 2008

Computers that is. Just picked my macbook up from getting a tune up, no problems :-) As much as I hate sales people greeting me at the door, I love it at the Apple Store. There are so many workers each customer could have help if needed. It’s nice to know I can get in and get out fast, especially with two kids in tow. :-)

January 20, 2008

Monday morning I am bringing my computer in the shop for a tune up. :-) It will take 24 - 48 hours before I get it back so if you do not hear from me until after Wednesday do not be surprised. If you want to place a print order, you can still email or call me but I will not be able to send it off to the printers until later this week. :-D

Until I come back online here is how we have spent our weekend so far. :-)

R. Maternity Sneak Peek

January 14, 2008
P.I.T

I think I am out of a job. :-) Normally, I have a policy of no other camera but mine during a session but I made an exception this one time. LOL! Our friends are expecting their 3rd baby girl, I couldn’t be happier for them. This little girls is so lucky to be born into a fun, loving family! I can’t wait to do the newborn session! Since E. took photos you probably already have seen some sneak peeks but here are some from my view. Hope you like them, talk to you Wednesday.

Double Bubble

January 13, 2008

Look at how cute these two are. I was able to spend Saturday morning with this wonderful family. It’s alway interesting to see the personality of children. During the session, the little girl wanted to have a pacifer, which her mom stated she usually does not take, and the little boy just wanted to stay curled up and sleep. They were the cutest little babies. When I look at the photo of the toes I want to touch them. Thank you for having me into your home, I enjoyed meeting you all!!!

Happy New {born} {changes} Year

January 2, 2008

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. We spent the week at my parents relaxing, visiting with family, and playing in the snow. I think the snow likes us because it followed us to my parents, rained here at home and we returned to grass, then woke up the next morning to snow on the ground. emoticonThankfully, We love it!

How much snow fell in less than 8 hours.

The New year was also kicked off by spending the morning doing a newborn session from the family of my last meternity session. Such a CUTE little guy!!! He did such a great job! Thank you to A. for shoveling the end of the drive so I knew where the drive way was LOL! I would have been in the ditch otherwise, everything was so white I couldn’t see where the road ended and the drive started. Thank heavens for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Here is one sneak peek for you, I will post more when I get them done.

ALSO, I have a few other BIG changes for the new year. The first is a new pricing list. It isn’t as big as the other changes to Unscripted Moments but still a change I want you all to be aware of. The other BIG change is to the proofing sessions. Proofing sessions, with the exception of newborns, will all be done in my home on a 50 inch plasma screen. Hopefully, you will love this new feature.

If there are any suggestions or comments anyone else has for me to improve the sessions, what you like or do not like drop me a comment. I also have my 2008 calendar set so if there is a date you would like to reserve in 2008 for a maternity/newborn, family, child, senior custom portrait session send an email or call. There are limited dates each month and I tend to book in advance. Hope you have a wonderful week!

I am on vacation.

December 24, 2007

I will be out of town on vacation 12.23.07 - 1.1.08. Please email with any questions or wanting to book a 2008 date and I will respond to your email when we return home.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and warm Christmas. See you in 2008!!

Can’t talk right now.

December 13, 2007

For the past couple of days I have been fighting a chest cold. Well this morning I woke with no voice. YIKES! (Why can’t this happen to my kids from time to time, just kidding.) My dh made a MD appointment for me this morning and come to find out I have bronchitis. I should be better in a few days with the help of antibiotics but don’t know how long before my voice is back. So if you need to contact me I would appeciate if you email or atleast leave an email address in your voice mail so I can get back to you in a timely manner.

I am currently booking maternity, child, senior, family portrait sessions for the weekends in 2008. Each family I had the pleasure of photographing in 2007 recieves a 10% discount on their 2008 session fee, on top of any referral discounts you may have earned. Dates do fill up in advance so  if there is a particular date you want your photos on call in advance.

We should be getting snow this weekend, I hope every one satys warms and enjoys the holiday season.

Murphy’s Law

December 11, 2007

Why is it Murphy’s Law actually happens? I was driving home from, I don’t even remember, and I thought "How great that I have not gotten sick in the past two years." Sure I would get a sniffle here a cough there but nothing that really slowed me down. WELL, wouldn’t you know it I woke up yesterday morning with chest congestion and now a fever. I look fine but my head is all foggy. :-) So I apologize ahead of time if I talk to anyone and do not make sense, it’s the cold talking. :-) For example, Hannah and I went grocery shopping yesterday morning. The cashier had to remind me three times to not do things. First I started unloading my groceries before the lady in form of my was done unloading, then to pay, and finally to tell me they put my groceries in a new cart. I thought I was being helpful by putting some of my own items in my cart. :-)

Now I am off to take a nap and I don’t even care if the girls trash the house. (Ok, I am not that sick, they will lay down with me.)

S. Maternity Session Sneak Peek

December 9, 2007

Saturday morning I went to photography a maternity session for a wonderful family. They are expecting their second child and do not know if it’s a boy or girl.  I enjoyed meeting and working with you all. A. is just adorable, this baby is going to have a great big sister!! I hope you feel better A. :-) Your maternity photos are finished and now we all await, some more anxiously than others :-) , for the new baby to arrive. Good luck in the next few days and I wish you all the best. Call me when you are ready for the next set of photos. Looking forward to seeing your all again soon! Hope you like the photos. Happy Holidays!!!

Candy Canes

Tis the season. It’s hard to believe it’s December 4th already. We went to the mall this afternoon and Santa walked by us on his way to the lines of children waiting to see him. The girls were so excited to see him. Reese asked if he took his sleigh to get there. :-) I love the innocence of a child.

I hope everyone stays warms this winter. Remember to take time for yourself this holiday season.

If you are thinking about booking a maternity, newborn, child, or family session to plan ahead. January is almost completely booked with January 26th or 27 open and people are starting to book for February/March.

I also wanted to THANK all those who choose Unscripted Moments Photography as their choice for custom portraits. It has turned out to be a wonderful year and I truly enjoyed meeting each. Enjoy the Holiday season and remember to take a break and treat yourself to something nice, even if it’s just some peace and quiet.

G. Family Sneak Peak

November 12, 2007

Being able to spend Sunday morning with the G. family was a pleasure. It was cold, windy, and rained but these boys were wonderful. Even though it was one of the coldest days this fall they all kept smiles on their faces. I couldn’t have asked for a better family to fight the cold with. Here are a few photos I have done, I hope you like them. :-)

My favorite season.

October 21, 2007

Fall is my FAVORITE season. What can be better than having a cloud free day slight breeze, although this weekend is quite windy, temps in the 60’s, and leaves full of bold warm orange, red, and yellow colors.  Being able to go outside in a pair of capri pants, and long sleeve shirt do anything you want without being to hot or to cold is bliss.

Along with being able to be outside, daylight starts to get shorter. To me it brings about a sense of peace and the feeling of wanting to relax. In the summer, it doesn’t get dark in my area until between 9-10p so to have it dark between 7-8p is great. THe girls are able to settle down hours before I feel ready to go to be. ;-) I don’t feel like because it’s still sunny out we should be outside until the mosquito’s drives us inside. (and they were aweful towards the end of summer) The extra few hours of darkness help me sleep through the night also instead of suffering from insomnia.

Right now I am sitting in a pair of shorts and a long sleeve T shirt listening to the windy rustle through the trees outside. The sunny is shining bright and it’s going to be a BEAUTIFUL day!! I love FALL.

here are some MOORE sneak peeks.

October 14, 2007

I spent Saturday Morning with a wonderful family. Right now I am finishing up with the editing of their session photos, what an adorable little guy. He was such a trooper and handled having a camera pointing at him for 2 plus hours better than most adults. Thank you for allowing me to come into your home and I hope you enjoy the sneak peeks. I will be calling you in the next few days to set up your proofing session. :-D
