Cry.

March 20, 2008

Here is one of the adorable MJC dresses I received yesterday. I wish H. was more excited to be out in the cold to take photos of it. The only way I was able to get a shot was to hold the camera at my side, point and shoot away.

WHich reminds my….Melissa C. I haven’t forgot about the tutorial for. :-) The weekend and week have gotten away from me…long story that I do not want to get into. I will get the tutorial for you though.

Also as of 5pm Thursday 3.20.08 I am on vacation until Monday morning. It’s long overdue that I spend time with my family without feeling like I should be doing something for Unscripted Moments. All emails and phone calls will be answered in order they were recieved Monday morning. :-) Thanks for understanding.

Why is it???

March 18, 2008

When I need to get the entire house dusted, vacuumed, bathrooms cleaned and laundry done I can do it In a matter of hours. BUT when it comes to everyday chores they never seemed to get done??? I didn’t do the deep clean I wish i could do but my house is picked up and all the laundry, except Chris’, is washed and put away. It feels good to have a clean house, makes me feel like my life is organized and I can think much more clear.

JUMP if you love Spring.

March 15, 2008
jump

We are jumping for joy, spring is starting to appear in Michigan. I had the windows open yesterday and Reese asked me "what is that smeeeellll?" My reply "FRESH AIR!!!" LOL! Reese had her tonsils and Adenoids taken out this past winterso maybe she never smelled fresh air before. Yay, that can be her excuse. hehe.

splash
I am excited to finally see "splashes" of color come out. While I love the purity of white snow when it blankets everything, it also makes me appreciate the newness of spring. So get your brightest colored shoes and do a spring dance. :-) my girls did.

Speaking of new. If you are interested in having newborn portraits / photographs / photography taken give me a call or email. My regular portrait sessions are full until October but I schedule newborn portrait sessions on a as needed basis.

A Partnership

March 6, 2008
What makes a great photo? We all want our photo to be the best but what does it take to have a GREAT portrait. It’s not about what camera is used, who is the best looking, most creative, or the clothes we were. It’s about a connection between the photographer and the subject.

I can honestly say most of my favorite photos are not necessarily those in which a person is looking directly at the camera. Yes, direct eye contact makes a wonderful portrait but there is more. It’s the little twinkle in a person’s eye when that special someone walks into a room. A spontaneous moments where all the conservative thought is gone and you just go with the moment. It’s not being afraid to take that extra little step.

freeze

Think about actors for a moment. We all have watched movies where the acting has been horrible. Why where they so bad? Did they fit the role, made trying to hard?? On the same thought, why are some actors soooooo goooooood! I always think it’s scary to get so wrapped up in a movie because the actors wer so believable. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about some of those movies for me, for example Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal( and I hate scary movies); Jodie Foster in The Brave One (left me shaking for two days not because it was scary but believable); Charilize Theron in Monster (YIKES!). Did you see Monster? Charlize gain weight and looked horrible, she deserved every right to have the Oscar for that role. She didn’t know when she first started the movie how it would turn out but she gave all of herself and won.  They all really put themself out there.

You are probably wondering what any of this has to do with your a photo session. Well, I ask that you think about what you have to bring to the session. Don’t be afraid to go with the moment and really put yourself out there. Don’t be afraid to look silly or serious. If I ask you to scream don’t hold back, let it go like you have never screamed before. If you are asked to look at your child, look at them and think about how much you truly love them and how you would do anything for them. Hold your significant other like you haven’t seen them in weeks. Allow yourself to belly laugh so hard you cry. I want to be able to not only capture you but your emotions too. Your photo shoot is your time to be a model or actor, only you are playing yourself. Most importantly, as much as we both want the session photos to look great, it’s about having fun too!

Happy Birthday To my Mom!!

March 5, 2008

Yeap, today she turns 36y {again} :-) I would have said 34 but then that would make her younger than me. Hope you have a great day!!!

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Go to her blog to wish her a happy birthday.  My Mom’s Blog

S’mores?

March 3, 2008
Who is thinking of making s’mores when there is still snow on the ground? Don’t you just love it when you walk into a room and there is a smell which reminds you of when you were younger. What about how the cold fresh air makes you feel. {Cold, I know :-) .}

Well, this past weekend my DH went out and bought an eight person tent, we only have four members in our family though, and a new sleepbag for me. The girls informed me, I was the only one without a sleepbag and needed one to go camping. :-) DH pitched this huge tent smack dab in the middle of our great room and we all camped out Saturday night. Waking up Sunday morning I know why I didn’t have a sleepbag. hehe. I digress. With camping comes campfires (a gas fireplace in our case) and the girls and DH roasted their marshmellows and made s’mores. Now, I did not not have one on Saturday but then we made them again tonight. Before the s’more hit my mouth I could smell the graham cracker and marshmellow, immediately I had thoughts of sitting around a campfire as a child eating these goofy sins. I didn’t think to much about the taste because I was thinking more about my thoughts and how the smore made me feel.
I am always impressed with the way the human mind forgets but then in an instant is flooded with so many memories. Such a wonderful thing, isn’t it!

Thank you Ladies, I love seeing the photos!

Now that you have your prints…

I just finished packaging two print orders. In one of the orders is a 20x30 family portrait, I can’t wait to deliver it to the family. I wish I would be able to see what it will look like once it’s hung above their fireplace. Well, that got me thinking… How and where do you have your Unscripted Moments Photos in your home? I would love to have a small snapshot of your images to post here on the blog. So if you would like to share your images email your pictures to kim@unscriptedmomentsphotography.com and I will post them here as(if) I get them.

To send photos via email for those that do not know how:

1.upload your images from your camera to your computer. Most camera’s have software in the setup to help with this, follow the directions according to your camera.

2. find the images you would like to attach to an email, write down the folder/file/name of where the image is so you remember where to look.

3. open up your email and click on new message

4. put in my email address

5. click on the attachment button. A window will open up, find the folder and image you would like to send.

6. click on the image and make sure it shows up as an attachment in the email.

7. hit send

8. check back here every few days to see if any photos are posted.

On another note, tomorrow is February 1st and I am currently booking sessions for February and March, and April. Clients have already started to book their summer sessions as well, so if you are considering having a children, family, maternity/newborn, or senior portrait session please do not wait to contact me.

her face is hilarious!! On this run she hit a huge bump in the middle of the sled hill, went airborne, and was able to land back in the sled and finish the ride. I was so nervouse she was going to wipe out I stopped shooting and completely missed her in the air and landing. What kind of mom am I? :-)

The rules:

Happy New {born} {changes} Year

January 2, 2008

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. We spent the week at my parents relaxing, visiting with family, and playing in the snow. I think the snow likes us because it followed us to my parents, rained here at home and we returned to grass, then woke up the next morning to snow on the ground. emoticonThankfully, We love it!

How much snow fell in less than 8 hours.

The New year was also kicked off by spending the morning doing a newborn session from the family of my last meternity session. Such a CUTE little guy!!! He did such a great job! Thank you to A. for shoveling the end of the drive so I knew where the drive way was LOL! I would have been in the ditch otherwise, everything was so white I couldn’t see where the road ended and the drive started. Thank heavens for 4 wheel drive vehicles. Here is one sneak peek for you, I will post more when I get them done.

ALSO, I have a few other BIG changes for the new year. The first is a new pricing list. It isn’t as big as the other changes to Unscripted Moments but still a change I want you all to be aware of. The other BIG change is to the proofing sessions. Proofing sessions, with the exception of newborns, will all be done in my home on a 50 inch plasma screen. Hopefully, you will love this new feature.

If there are any suggestions or comments anyone else has for me to improve the sessions, what you like or do not like drop me a comment. I also have my 2008 calendar set so if there is a date you would like to reserve in 2008 for a maternity/newborn, family, child, senior custom portrait session send an email or call. There are limited dates each month and I tend to book in advance. Hope you have a wonderful week!

I am on vacation.

December 24, 2007

I will be out of town on vacation 12.23.07 - 1.1.08. Please email with any questions or wanting to book a 2008 date and I will respond to your email when we return home.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and warm Christmas. See you in 2008!!

Can’t talk right now.

December 13, 2007

For the past couple of days I have been fighting a chest cold. Well this morning I woke with no voice. YIKES! (Why can’t this happen to my kids from time to time, just kidding.) My dh made a MD appointment for me this morning and come to find out I have bronchitis. I should be better in a few days with the help of antibiotics but don’t know how long before my voice is back. So if you need to contact me I would appeciate if you email or atleast leave an email address in your voice mail so I can get back to you in a timely manner.

I am currently booking maternity, child, senior, family portrait sessions for the weekends in 2008. Each family I had the pleasure of photographing in 2007 recieves a 10% discount on their 2008 session fee, on top of any referral discounts you may have earned. Dates do fill up in advance so  if there is a particular date you want your photos on call in advance.

We should be getting snow this weekend, I hope every one satys warms and enjoys the holiday season.

Murphy’s Law

December 11, 2007

Why is it Murphy’s Law actually happens? I was driving home from, I don’t even remember, and I thought "How great that I have not gotten sick in the past two years." Sure I would get a sniffle here a cough there but nothing that really slowed me down. WELL, wouldn’t you know it I woke up yesterday morning with chest congestion and now a fever. I look fine but my head is all foggy. :-) So I apologize ahead of time if I talk to anyone and do not make sense, it’s the cold talking. :-) For example, Hannah and I went grocery shopping yesterday morning. The cashier had to remind me three times to not do things. First I started unloading my groceries before the lady in form of my was done unloading, then to pay, and finally to tell me they put my groceries in a new cart. I thought I was being helpful by putting some of my own items in my cart. :-)

Now I am off to take a nap and I don’t even care if the girls trash the house. (Ok, I am not that sick, they will lay down with me.)

Candy Canes

December 4, 2007
candy canes

Tis the season. It’s hard to believe it’s December 4th already. We went to the mall this afternoon and Santa walked by us on his way to the lines of children waiting to see him. The girls were so excited to see him. Reese asked if he took his sleigh to get there. :-) I love the innocence of a child.

I hope everyone stays warms this winter. Remember to take time for yourself this holiday season.

If you are thinking about booking a maternity, newborn, child, or family session to plan ahead. January is almost completely booked with January 26th or 27 open and people are starting to book for February/March.

Do You Believe

I had spotted this bell in a craft store a few weeks ago and it reminded me of the movie the Polar Express. My girls are very excited it started snowing and Christmas will soon be here.

I also wanted to THANK all those who choose Unscripted Moments Photography as their choice for custom portraits. It has turned out to be a wonderful year and I truly enjoyed meeting each. Enjoy the Holiday season and remember to take a break and treat yourself to something nice, even if it’s just some peace and quiet.

October 22, 2007

The girls and I carved one pumkin tonight for fun. There are 4 other pumpkins around our house which need carving over the next week.

My favorite season.

October 21, 2007

Fall is my FAVORITE season. What can be better than having a cloud free day slight breeze, although this weekend is quite windy, temps in the 60’s, and leaves full of bold warm orange, red, and yellow colors.  Being able to go outside in a pair of capri pants, and long sleeve shirt do anything you want without being to hot or to cold is bliss.

Along with being able to be outside, daylight starts to get shorter. To me it brings about a sense of peace and the feeling of wanting to relax. In the summer, it doesn’t get dark in my area until between 9-10p so to have it dark between 7-8p is great. THe girls are able to settle down hours before I feel ready to go to be. ;-) I don’t feel like because it’s still sunny out we should be outside until the mosquito’s drives us inside. (and they were aweful towards the end of summer) The extra few hours of darkness help me sleep through the night also instead of suffering from insomnia.

Right now I am sitting in a pair of shorts and a long sleeve T shirt listening to the windy rustle through the trees outside. The sunny is shining bright and it’s going to be a BEAUTIFUL day!! I love FALL.

Playing around

October 12, 2007

Today the girls and I went and found a park that had tons of leaves on the ground. They loved running through the leaves and raking them into piles.

Wish

October 11, 2007

Doesn’t this make you wish you were a kid again. Just to be able to dress up and pretend you have super hero powers. This afternoon we were playing around and I was letting Reese throw me onto the couch with her Super Hero Powers. Yes, I over exaggerated the throw, call my the bionic woman, LOL, but the girls thought it was so much fun.

Super Hero

Do your children play super heros, knights, princesses? Would you want to be able to remember those moments forever? Call and set up a photo session to capture those fun unscripted moments.

Pumpkin Patch

With Halloween soon approaching Reese wakes up asking when are we going to decorate out home for Halloween, How many days until Halloween, can I watch a scary movie, etc. Do you think she likes Halloween? emoticon On Tuesday, we took the girls to the pumpkin patch to get their pumpkins. It was the last warm day of the fall I think (60-70’s it was 92 out Monday). Here are a few pictures of our adventure.

Preschool Field Trips

October 4, 2007

Wednesday Reese had a preschool field trip to a local apple orchard. Unlike last year, where is was sleeting/snowing and everyone froze, we had beautiful weather. A perfect fall morning.

The first thing we did was go into a barn were an apple orchard instructor talked to all the kids about apples. They talked about the different kinds of apples, how bees pollinate the apple, and even made all the fathers use little bee puppets and do the dance of the bees. FUNNY! We then took a tractor ride and each child was able to pick an apple to take home. After the tractor ride, everyone went inside had apple cider and doughnuts. Reese asked to have my cider and as I was passing it to her Hannah stood up, hit my cup, and I spilled cider all down her head. She just thought it was funny. :-) To burn off energy the kids were able to run around by the pumpkins and the little petting zoo they had.

and of course what else are you to do with a pumpkin but put stones on it. All the kids were doing it, must have been the pea gravel.

the color purple, hat

September 20, 2007

Look what we received this morning. Our friend Pam knitted this adorable purple hat for Hannah. I was going to take a picture with Hannah wearing it but then the delivery man dropped off my order from Old Navy. WELL, I forgot I ordered Reese a purple dress. :-) they match perfectly. I love this hat and now can’t wait for the cold weather to arrive. If you are interested in having a custom knot hat made contact me and I will pass the word on.

Here are photos of my girls.

Getting ready for school. I took a photo in front of this bush last year before we left for Reese’s first day of school. Thought I would repeat it. I find it fun to look back at photos and see how similiar the girls are and how much they have grown.

School has started.

September 11, 2007

The "chaos" for us started yesterday. The start of another school year. Reese started her 4 year old pre-school program and will be going 3 days a week. Our Monday’s are the busiest day of the week with School in the am, violin/piano in the afternoon followed by swimming. We get home just in time for bed, LOL!!! I have pictures of the first day of school and swimming. When I get a few moments I will post them. Reese said she LOVES swimming and wants to do it every day.

Today we are off to ice skating. Hannah’s first time on the ice without me. YIKES!! Poor thing will probably fall so much I feel for her already. She so wants to be a big girl though. Watching her yesterday in Piano group made me sad, she really is becoming a big girl. She did EVERYTHING the 3.5 -5 year olds did. JUST ADORABLE!!!!

I will try to get the photo posted this afternoon for everyone.

ETA.. one photo from Hannah’s first ice skating lesson.

The ice isn't too hard.

Remember if you are interested in a holiday mini-session email or call me. Also call if you are looking for a:

Random Facts–Being Tagged

September 1, 2007

Tasha- Homeshade Photography tagged me to post 8 random facts about myself. So here we go:

1.) I am an only girl of four children.

2.) Grew up in a small town called Baraga in Michigan’s Upper Pennisula

3.) Have two Bachelor degree. A BS in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University  and the second a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Detroit Mercy.

4.) my favorite color is green.

5.) I am terrified of flying in an airplane. Well maybe it’s not the flying part but the thought of crashing. I will get on an airplane though because I hate the thought of driving anything over 12 hours.

6.) To go with #5..I am deathly afraid of heights!!

7.) My wedding anniversary just happened to be on my grandparents wedding anniversary.

8.) I get up at 5:30a after a snow fall just to be the first person in my sub to be outside. I have done this even as a child. The blanket of white snow, crisp air, and monochrome color bring about a sense of peacefullness and completely beautiful!! i you have never gotten up that early to see the perfect snow you really should try it. Especially, if you have children.

Those are my 8 random facts, now I tag…

Vote for me!

August 21, 2007

Last night I found out one of my photos is in contention of winning a contest on 411marketplace.com . Voting ends August 24th 5pm EST. The winner receives 6 months of Free upgraded advertising on their web site. It will help me get my business name out in the community a little easier.

http://411marketsource.com/artanddesign/cindex.asp?id=Contest

It’s a photo of Hannah, while we were on a preschool field trip with Reese to a farm last spring. We were in looking at all the chicks in the barn and inbetween all the preschools running around I was able to capture Hannah looking out on of the old barn doors. I would appreciate if you voted, only once per 24hr, when you get a chance. My photo is #7.

Here is the photo I entered:

Feedback

August 16, 2007

I updated the look of the website and also added a new link. It’s a TESTIMONIAL page. I would love to hear what you have to say about your Unscripted Moments experience. Your feedback will allow me to make improvements to how the sessions/proofing are run. Is there an item you wished I offered, jewelry, different size prints, etc.

Let me know your thoughts.

A start…

Thank you for visiting my Unscripted Moments Photography Blog. I plan to use this site to post sneak peeks for all my sessions and anything to do with Unscripted Moments Photography. First, I would like to share my newest addition to the family. It’s a FujiFilm S5 Pro. So far, I love the results and hope you will too. I am letting the girls practice their photography skills with my Nikon. Hopefully, one day they will be my second and third shooters on sessions. :-D
